Les Saintes Terre-de-Bas
Wild and timeless
Much less frequented than its neighbour, Terre-de-Bas is the 2nd inhabited island of the Saintes archipelago. Approximately 1000 inhabitants spread over 2 villages: the towns of Grande-Anse and Petite-Anse. Mountainous and steep Terre-de-Bas retains a wild and timeless aspect. The activity of the island is limited to fishing and handicrafts, in particular the manufacture of Salako, the famous Saintois hat whose shape reminds us of those of Indochina.
The colors of nature
Terre-de-Bas has something for nature lovers! Bathing fun, snorkelling, diving and magnificent walks on land. 4 hiking trails across the island (Trace des Falaises, Trace du dessus de l’Etang, Trace du pied de l’Etang and Trace du Morne). The tracks cross in the center of the island at the orientation table of the cistern. An extraordinary point of view on Guadeloupe, Terre-de-Haut – Marie Galante – Désirade, Dominica! All along these hikes nature offers a palette of intense colours. Warm tones of the savannah, deep green of the Indian wood forests, shades of blue of the sky and the sea, a delight! Beginners will find a 45-minute trail and the more experienced can choose the cliff track in 3 hours!
Always equip yourself with good shoes, a bottle of water per person and sun cream.

If you want a quiet swim, near the village of Petite Anse, not far from the fishermen’s landing stage, a black sand beach stretches out its arms. Exposed on the Caribbean Sea side, the waters are calm.
